Guidebook

Foreword

The Global Type III Environmental Product Declarations Network is an international non-profit association of Type III Environmental Product Declaration organisations and practitioners. The overall purpose of the network is to foster co-operation and encourage information exchange among its members and other parties operating or developing Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) programs around the world, and to discuss key issues in developing such programs.

One of the attempts to facilitate such information and experience exchange, is to facilitate this International Guide to Environmental Product Declarations. However, we would like to stress that this guidebook is not in any way an attempt to anticipate or replace the ongoing work within ISO on the international standard ISO 14025.

A pre-print edition of the guide was prepared for the Type III environmental declarations Workshop in Johannesburg, in June 2002, arranged by GEDnet and ISO/TC207/SC3/WG4. This revised edition was updated in 2006 in order to reflect recent changes within the field of EPD worldwide.

Our aim is to present a comprehensive compilation of the state of the art in the field of Type III Environmental Product Declarations.

We would like to thank all the people involved so far in drafting and reviewing this second edition of the guide and contributing information about the EPD initiatives and methodologies presented.
